I’ve claimed new ground on the digital landscape with this, my latest website.
As the name of the site indicates, I created it primarily to showcase my writing and photography, as I plan to take my career in a direction that points squarely at the work I enjoy most. You’ll find that work here, so let me take you on a tour.
Using Squarespace as my host platform, I’ve built the site with some foundational material, both past and present, the most important of which are the feature stories I’ve enjoyed writing most of all as a general assignment reporter and editor for many years. These Fav Features are posted under the homepage’s Stories tab. They include a few of my favorite or most memorable tales I’ve told about the many interesting and accomplished people I’ve met, including two World War II veterans that I helped unite nearly sixty years after they had met briefly in a Nazi prison camp.
Before I got started in journalism, I wrote commentary pieces on political and cultural topics, which I’ve returned to writing in recent years, most notably with The Objective Standard, a quarterly publication and blog based on Objectivism. You can find my TOS blogs and reviews and a sampling of my favorite newspaper columns under the Opinions tab.
Now, of course, what makes my site pretty as a picture are my photo galleries, which are posted under the Places, Nature & Man, and Art & Architecture tabs. I created these galleries with a select number of photos that were culled from the tens of thousands of images I’ve captured since I purchased my first “real” camera, a Nikon D90, more than three years ago. Take a gander at my shots of diverse subjects, from the Empire State Building bathed in rainbow colors, a bird’s-eye view of a dog walker, and sunrise on Lake Winnipesaukee, to a living room at Chesterwood, surfers cruisin’ waves, and classic paintings such as The Death of Socrates by Jacques-Louis David.
This site will undoubtedly evolve and change, but for the foreseeable future you can anticipate reading my latest feature stories, commentaries and reviews, as well as my ruminations on writing, photography and other subjects and observations posted on this particular blog. One blog I plan to write will explore why I found photography to be the perfect cure for the loneliness that can accompany the solitude that writing too often demands.
I also expect to resurrect and rewrite some of my favorite timeless columns and blogs that I posted to my earlier Blogger sites, re-developing them with new ideas and overall improvements. Once such piece explores how my interest in Objectivism evolved from of my subjectivist, agnostic, and leftist beginnings.
And, of course, after I head outside regularly or take trips with my camera in hand, I’ll update my photo galleries with my latest images. Visit my Contact page to email me if you’re interested in purchasing one or more of my photos. There, you can also sign up for my newsletter to receive updates to my site. Also, to learn a bit more about me and my writing career and photography work, scroll over to my About page.
I believe that maintaining and developing this site will go a long way toward helping me to concentrate more on exactly what matters most to me as I move forward in my career. I hope you’ll stick around as I continue my journey.
